The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology deals with the diagnosis and medical management of all the dental, oral, and para oral diseases including facial pain, temporomandibular disorders, salivary gland pathologies, oromucosal lesions, oral cancer and potentially malignant disorders The Department also deals with oral manifestations of systemic diseases and dental management of medically compromised patients. As per DCI norms, there is an active Tobacco cessation cell fully equipped with Carbon monoxide monitor and other equipment that provides counseling and medical management for tobacco addiction.
The Maxillofacial radiology section of the department is AERB certified and houses state-of- the-art Digital panoramic radiographic unit, Extra-oral radiographic equipment, Digital and analog Intra oral X ray machines and all radiation protection gear for patients and personnel. Radiation safety is monitored through strict quality assurance programs and TLD badges, processed by authorized outlets of BARC.
The department is a vibrant hub of research activity evidenced by faculty with PhD degree, 8 research scholars presently pursuing PhD and 6 Post graduate students pursuing their MDS degree. Research thrust areas of the department include Oral submucous fibrosis and other potentially malignant disorders, Cone beam CT applications in dentistry and Tobacco cessation. Research output of the department is commendable with numerous publications in PUBMED and SCOPUS indexed publications including in reputed international journals with H-index over 100. Research is also encouraged at the undergraduate level with some students receiving research funding from DBT, Government of India through the NEWGEN-IEDC scheme.
Teaching –learning process is interactive, dynamic and inclusive with OSCEs, Seminars, Journal discussions, Case presentations, Quizzes, Paper and poster presentations in national conferences, research studies and publications as well as a highly efficient system of teaching, catering to the needs of slow and fast learners alike. Feedback is obtained from all stakeholders for an effective SWOT analysis and every attempt is made to continuously strive for excellence, consistent with the mission and vision of the university.
