Introduction

Periodontology

The department of public health dentistry deals with research, consultation and extension activities. To blend modernity and tradition, the department has a goal of producing graduates who are knowledgeable, principled, ethical and disciplined. To produce a graduate asset who has the potential to make valuable contributions, apply the knowledge they have received and contribute to promoting oral health of their communities and preventing disease.

Teaching Learning Process

  1. Lectures are aided by power point slides.
  2. Chair side teaching is done using models.
  3. Experimental learning involves 'learning by doing' which is achieved by participation in community health education
  4. Service learning involves participation of undergraduates in the Community diagnosis and treatment programs.
  5. Students faced with a public health problem (e.g. dental Fluorosis, early childhood caries, Oral sub mucous fibrosis) presented to them in a group situation must work together to identify the issues and find a resolution to the problem that is presented to them.

Distinguished Clinical Facilities

The department is full-fledged and well-equipped with 16 dental chairs for treating the underprivileged. The departmental library consists books covering various aspects of Public Health, Dental Public Health, Research Methodology and Biostatistics. A Full fledged state of the art museum with innovative working models for educating the public on dental health aspects.
